Our Rumah Shalom, or foster homes, should not be confused with orphanages, because most of the children that we care and provide for already have parents. The majority of children within our foster homes are from either single parent or broken homes, many having experienced some sort of trauma or suffering from a disability.
Unlike the many orphanages found throughout Indonesia, our foster homes seek to incorporate an adoption concept, where we stay with, support, and care for each child all the way through high school, even helping them to get into college or find work at the appropriate time.
We aspire to be the true father, mother, brother, and sister of each and every child that we care for. The children found within our foster homes often come out of our network of transition houses, as well as from regional rehabilitation centers.
We ensure that every child we care for, especially those with disabilities and handicaps, receives the proper care and development that they need to best succeed in life and society.
Our goal for every foster home that we establish is to see children from broken homes and difficult backgrounds become both capable and independent – working, getting married, and forming their own strong, healthy families for generations to come.
We currently have Rumah Shalom locations on the island of Batam, as well as within Kupang, East Timor, committed to loving and serving kids from the surrounding villages and communities.
