Our Rumah Kasih, or transition houses, are safe places where kids from slums, along with other children from difficult backgrounds and living situations, can come to sharpen their reading, math, and writing skills, as well as receive other important tutoring.
Our goal is to see children empowered and equipped to rise up from difficult situations and circumstances to become successful members and leaders within their surrounding communities.
Aside from providing essential tutoring activities, our transition houses also work hard to offer schooling options and opportunities to children in need through both scholarships, as well as partnerships with local education institutions.
In addition to this, we lead each participating child through a specialized character training curriculum, which seeks to instill 49 important character attributes into the life of each child.
As a child grows older and is developed as a leader, they are then, in turn, given opportunities to lead and develop other children within the same context.
At this point, the leadership role that the older child plays within the transition house has the opportunity to transform into a vocational career that extends beyond mere social work.
We currently have transition house locations throughout the island of Batam, the Riau and Riau Archipelago provinces, as well as across Kupang, East Timor.
